Body scrub
This is a very basic recipe for a body scrub. It uses salt (or sugar) for its exfoliating properties. Because salt or sugar will melt under water, the scrub will gently dissolve as you use it, insuring that your skin is not damaged. Olive oil is used for its smoothing properties and helps create the right texture. Essential oils add a nice smell to your body scrub. Avoid strong, pungent scents and keep in mind that a little goes a long way. Food coloring adds a nice tint to your final product. It can be omitted from the recipe.
1 cup ground sea salt or Epsom salt or cane sugar (Epsom salt is available at your local pharmacy)
2-4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (grapeseed oil works great)
3-4 drops essential oil (optional)
2 drops food colouring (optional)
- In a large container with a lid combine salt and 2 tablespoons of oil. Mix well.
- Add the rest of the oil, making sure that the mix gets moist but not too oily.
- Add the essential oil and the food coloring, close the lid, and shake well to mix.
- The final mixture can be used as a scrub or can be added in your bath.
- Stored in an air-tight container, the mix will keep for several months.
